The Ez Trimmer works by utilizing a fan blade under its cutting blade that does several things in terms of airflow. First, the fan blade creates suction to pull the leaf down through the grate and into the filtration bags, second, it creates a controllable vortex that assists in moving and dispersing the product as it’s trimmed, and lastly, it agitates the clipped leaf in the filtration bags helping to remove the trichomes as they are filtered through the bags.

The airflow is controlled with the airflow controller and the two small inner lids on the top of the machine. With one or both the inner lids open the suction will increase and the vortex will decrease. This allows you to create a stronger vortex to assist in the movement of wet or heavier product, or less of a vortex and more suction for slowing down the movement of dry or larfy product. The airflow controller is used to prop open the back inner lid in smaller increments, adjust the position of the airflow controller based on strain and density. In addition to the lids and airflow controller, you can also adjust the airflow by changing the speed of the main motor. Additionally, you can use the back inner lid to assist in the exiting of the product when the trim cycle is complete, simply pump the lid open and closed as the product empties into the chute.

The rotor and silicone fingers are used to help disperse and roll the product along the grate. The rotor speed and direction can be controlled. Slowing down the rotor will minimize agitation on delicate product, while running the rotor on higher speeds or in reverse (Against the flow of the vortex) can create more agitation. Typically we recommend that you run the rotor in the forward direction and at higher speeds. Again, this is something you will want to adjust based on strain, density and personal preference.

In addition to the adjustability of the cutting blade height, suction and vortex, and rotor fingers speed and direction, the Ez Trimmer also comes standard with two different trimming grates. The wet grate is for wet trimming and  comes with ¼” open slots and the dry grate  that has ⅛” open slots. The dry grate is placed on top of the wet grate when trimming dry.

The trim collection from the Ez Trimmer is unmatched by any other trimming machine. After being cut, the trim falls into a 4-layer trim sifting system that grades your leftovers from leaf to kief. Once in the bags, your trim remains undamaged by any sources of agitation like heat, compression, or movement. Being able to make high-quality extracts from your trim is key to maximizing the profits from your harvests.

Our patented and unique filtration system comes with four collection bags with varying micron levels for separating and collecting the leaf as it’s trimmed. The first bag collects the larger leaf and stem, this product is good for extraction but contains and separates the majority of the chlorophyll filled leaf. The second bag collects your sweet leaf and is excellent for extraction and pre-rolls. The third bag is your B grade keif and the fourth bag is your A grade keif. Separating the trim and keif can create more control over potency levels when extracting. These bags can also be utilized as a dry sifter.

We recommend flash drying to achieve the necessary crispness for the outer leaves while leaving the inner bud moist and sponge-like. See some tips and tricks below:

The leaves are ready for trimming when they snap when agitated and do not bend

  1. The objective is to dry the leaves quickly, so they snap while still maintaining sponginess to the inside of the flower
  2. Leaf Crisping means that you introduce ample amounts of airflow over the outside of the flowers to crisp up the outer leaves quickly, while the inner flowers remain spongy
  3. Leaf Crisping allows the trimmer to trim the outer leaves very quickly, while maintaining the structure of the flower, and because the inside of the flower is still spongy and not over dried, we can avoid any excess break down that trimming can cause
  4. When using the Leaf Crisper, place the partially dried shucked flowers into the container and turn the inline fan on to its highest setting
  5. The air is pulled up from the bottom of the container where the moisture settles and around the flowers at a very high CFM
  6. Program the timer to run the Leaf Crisper anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on strain and moisture level
  7. The goal is to dry the outer leaves as quickly as possible, without over drying the inside of the flowers
  8. The product is ready for trimming when the outer leaves snap when agitated, but the flower is still nice and spongy (leaf Crisping isn’t always necessary before trimming)
  9. Leaf Crisping decreases the risk of trimming over dried flowers and the breakdown that can occur
  10. If not using our Leaf Crisper, supply the flowers with ample amounts of direct airflow for 30 minutes up to 3 hours using fans
  11. Check on the flowers, mix and rotate every 30 minutesied flowers and the breakdown that can occur
